I was talking to my Grams on the phone a few days ago.
My dear Grams…
Grams is my dad’s mom and lives in Ft. Worth, Texas.
She’s 85 years old, lives on her own, still drives all over Ft. Worth, goes for walks, has lunch with friends, volunteers at her church, answers her phone (which rings off the hook), and sends sweet and thoughtful cards to her grandchildren.
Grams is a regular modern day saint.
She prays for her children and grandchildren regularly.
And she always sounds enthusiastic to get a phone call from her family.
Oh yes…
she also watches The Biggest Loser and The Bachelor.
Talk about a cool grandmother.
When I was visiting with her on the phone, I was struck by something she told me.
She said, “I’m just so happy here in my house. I get up every day and I just thank the Lord for the day that He’s given me”.
It hit me like a zinger.
How often do I wake up in the morning,
And bemoan the day in front of me?
Or dread getting out of bed.
Or spend my time complaining throughout the day when things don’t go my way.
Psalm 118:24
This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Rejoice.
The definition according to dictionary.com is to be glad; take delight.
Some days are easy to rejoice.
Summer= lots of rejoicing
School starting= not quite as much rejoicing
I’m taking Grams’ challenge…
And asking the Lord to help me rejoice in each day He’s given me.
Even when I’m tired
Worn out
And facing things ahead of me that I don’t want to do.
Good thing He gives me grace, because I need it.
Thanks Grams, for the lesson.
Enjoy the sunshine!
